Book Beginnings on Fridays is a meme hosted by Rose City Reader where you share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.
This week I chose the book The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. I’m almost done with this novel but I enjoyed the beginning so I chose it.
First sentence of the prologue:
When the White Noise went off, we were in the Garden, pulling weeds.
Thoughts: What is the White Noise?? What does it mean? It doesn’t sound good. And where is the main character, since the word garden is capitalized?
First sentence of the first chapter:
Grace Somerfield was the first to die.
Thoughts: How could you not be intrigued by this sentence? First chapter and someone is already dead. Considering the prologue didn’t give much information as to why this would happen, I was hooked.
